How do you celebrate your
twins Birthday at your Place/home?
Birthdays are
the events that the kids and parents are equally excited
about. Celebration at home can be as exciting as doing it
outside. You can retain the excitement of in-house
celebration by coming up with new and unique idea year on
year. I always ask this question to myself "
what should I do this year? " & always look for the new
ideas over the internet, every years for my twin daughters,
Here I thought I will share my celebration ideas to all of
you.
Until the age of
7, we have been cutting a single cake for their birthday.
The reason I think it may change here onwards is because
they are now in different classes and have different sets of
friends as well. They hence get invited into different
birthday parties individually, often without the other one.
I guess its only a matter of time before they insist on
individual birthday parties with their respective groups as
against doing it combined. Don't know how we will deal with
the situation but whenever we come across the same, we will
surely share our experience in this forum.
I personally
enjoy making cakes of different kinds and based on different
themes. This helps me avoid the monotony of the same kind of
cakes year after year. For their previous birthday, I
created a Barbie Doll (please see the picture) that came out
amazingly well. While I am open to sharing my thoughts and
ideas with you all, I am also eager to know how do you deal
with birthdays at your end.
So here I have collected some
information for you which might help you. There are simply
too many things to be elaborated, and I may not be able to
do justice to all of them, however a checklist is a good
starting point:
-
Make a list of all
invitees.
-
Think over an appropriate
birthday party theme, like Cinderella party, Batman
party, etc.
-
Decide the birthday party
game and activities.
-
Plan your food list:
Order for the cake, other menu and confirm it before the
party. In case you are preparing the cake at home, bake
the cake one or two days earlier.
-
Arrange for balloons,
colourful streamers, candles, etc.
-
Check the batteries of
your camera.
-
Arrange persons for your
help on the day.
Date:
Conventional wisdom suggests that we have a party on the day
itself. However depending on the target guests, and public
holidays, you may have to move it to a different date, to
ensure an optimal attendance. Between Saturday and Sunday,
you may want to choose Saturday if you are expecting the
event to be tiring for yourself and for others! You may also
want to factor in weather forecast, other events etc.
Theme:
Typical boys theme would be based on sports or
action & adventure. Girls theme in contrast could be more
conventional princess based.
Decoration: Balloons and streamers play a vital role
in brightening up the occasion. Hang bunches of captivating
multi-coloured balloons in every nook and corner of the
venue according to your fancy and tie these with colourful,
curled ribbons. Arrange some streamers and hang them on the
four opposite sides of the ceiling. Don’t forget to decorate
the table as well as the
cake. You can decorate the table where you are going to
keep the cake with
flowers,
balloons, ribbons and brighten up the cake with a candle-lit
focus. Inflating several balloons is tiring, use of a pump
comes handy and helps you save you energy for the party
itself.
Cake:
The cake that you choose would depend on the gender of you
kids. While the girls are likely to be inclined towards
princess character based cakes, boys would fancy locomotives
like cars or trains! In case your twins are one boy and one
girl, you will essentially need two cakes to cater to their
different tastes.
Games:
The number of games for the party should depend upon the
duration of the party and age of your kids. Make the
necessary arrangements for the birthday party games well
ahead of the party. Some games games for typical 5 years old
could be: Passing the parcel, pin the donkey, treasure hunt
etc. You should also draw inputs from your kids as they
would surely know what tickles them more!
Gifts:
When purchasing gifts for the twins, it's a good idea to
have different presents for each that reflect their
interests. You might decide to give a large gift for both as
well, if you like. But giving personal gifts still stresses
to the kids that "you're unique individuals, and
individuality does matter!"
